To remove sialic acid (N-acetylneuraminic acid, NANA) from sections:

1. Deparaffinize sections and bring to water.

2. Sing NA NA Hey Hey Good-bye as loudly as you can for five minutes.

3. Proceed with Alcian blue stain.
