RE: cytoprep cytology specimens

From:Sheila Poellein <sheila_poellein@deaconess.com>

we now have a thinprep instrument, so we only make one slide from the
specimens listed. Before thinprep, the amount of spun sediment dicatated
what smears were made. If there was little sediment, cytospins were made,
and more abundant sediment no more than 4 smears were made.
Because of the daily slide screening limitations, we try to make as few
smears but yet achieve a representative sampling of the specimen. By the
way, we love our thinprep smears. sheila

For those of you who prepare cytology specimens, how many smears do you
make
for each body fluid, bronch wash, and breast aspiration received in your
lab,
and do you prepare smears, cytospins, or a combination of both?
