RE: Thermometer in Microwave

From:"Tom T. McNemar" <TMcNemar@lmhealth.org>

We just had our JCAHO inspection and the inspector (mighty picky inspector,
I might add) said that we should take and record temps in the microwave.
Hadn't thought about that one before. We did not receive a recommendation
for it but she left me a procedure for Microwave Quality Verification and
Maintenance that includes the following to be done daily:
	- Using a thermometer, measure and record temps of 40ml of DI water
after 10, 30, and 60 seconds at high power
	- Check door gasket for secure seal
	- Wipe and dry interior surfaces
	- Using a stopwatch, check timer accuracy at 10, 30, and 60 seconds.
Do not operate oven empty. Always place a beaker of water inside
during timer checks.

For our purposes here, I've never found the temp of the microwave to be
particularly critical.
