Greg,
This is a bit low tech: try a solution of approx 70% alcohol made up with
warm (tepid) water. The colour won't revert to its prefixed 'glorious
technicolor' days but it does help to liven up gross photographs. The old
Kaiserlings solution used sodium dithionite which is very effective but not
very pleasant.
