This technique was introduced by Lendrum, Slidders and Fraser (1972)
Renal Hyalin: a study of amyloidosis and diabetic fibrinous vasculosis
with new staining methods. J. Clin. Pathol., 25, 372-396.
This technique can provide very pretty results, however, it is not
specific.

The sodium sulphate-Alcian blue (SAB) method.

Reagents
1) Acetic alcohol
	95% ethanol..........45ml
	D. water..................45ml
	Glacial acetic acid 10ml
Prepare fresh for use

2) SAB solution
	1% Alcian blue 8GX in 95% ethanol..............................45ml
	1% aqueous sodium sulphate decahydrate..................45ml
	Glacial acetic
acid.......................................................10ml
Prepare from stock solutions and let stand for 30 min prior to use.

3) 80% ethanol saturated with Borax

Method

1) dewax and bring sections to water.
2) immerse in acetic alcohol for 1-2 min.
3) stain in SAB solution for 2 hours.
4) transfer to acetic alcohol for 1-2 min.
5) wash in water.
6) Alkalinize in borax-ethanol for 30 min.
7) wash in water.
8) stain nuclei with celestine blue- hemalum sequence and counter-stain
with Van Gieson.
9) dehydrate, clear and mount.

Result

Amyloid, mast cells and some colloids = green
Nuclei = black
Collagen = red
