Does anyone have any experience with benchtop cryostats?  What are the advantages/disadvantages?
Vendors welcome...need for availability in Canada.

Thanks in advance

Jacquie,

Leica makes a really nice benchtop unit, the CM1100.

Advantages: small, compact, good temperature stability, can run from DC voltages as well (e.g., battery supply), easily portable (it's a breeze to load it on a cart and move to other locations).

Disadvantages: limited working/storage space inside, and temp control is best when the chamber door can be kept closed most of the time.  So it's not a good choice for Mohs or other techniques where you need to keep lots of chucks and specimens frozen or where you need to work with the door open for long periods of time.
