Chemicon and Beecher Instrument needles vary in size when compared to each other.   These Dermal needles are what I have used for punching array tissues manually.  They work very well and if you are doing DNA studies they are Sterile, cheap and disposable.

And as I mentioned before, they have hollow handles for a stylet to go through for easy removal of tissue cores.
