Stain problem

From:Lee & Peggy Wenk

Hi - this is part 2 of the question from the colleague.

Could this have anything to do with recycled xylene and/or the fact that
they are adding acetic acid to the xylene before recycling?

Thanks again - Peggy A. Wenk, HTL(ASCP)SLS

A technician in our lab did a special stain on Bielschowski's method and she
saw her slides under the microscope and her staining was excellent. When
she was done with her staining she put the
slides (that was done on Bielschowski' stain) in xylene (before
coverslipping) and went to lunch. After coming back from lunch, she noticed
that all the colors from the staining slides disappear. She told that she
never see this things before in her 25 years of experience.

Can you please answer why this happen? Was there any wrong with the recycled
xylene?
