Re: West Nile Virus Antibody

From:Louri Caldwell

Hi Cheryl,

The Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Service, SCWDS, out of this
University has been doing IHC for West Nile Virus for some time. Over the
past several months, since the virus was found here in the Southeast, they
have been inundated with samples - performing one to two runs every day to
keep up with the load.

They are using a polyclonal antibody purchased commercially from
BioRealiance in Rockville, Maryland (phone 301-738-1000). The technician I
spoke with has been very pleased with the performance of this antibody but
noted it will cross with, she believed, St. Louis Encephalitis. While the
retrieval required may be different for your lab, they use Ventanna's
protease for 2-3 minutes before staining.
BioRealiance also offers a monoclonal antibody, which SCWDS has purchased
but as yet has not tested. The tech also noted both antibodies were
inexpensive - always a good thing!

If you need any more information, please feel free to contact me. Hope this
helps.

Sincerely,

Louri Caldwell, BS, HTL (ASCP)
