we are using successfully the anti-mouse F4/80 from Serotec on both frozen
and formalin fixed tissue.
Frozen tissue is absolutely no problem to get strong and clean signal, but
on formalin fixed tissue you must respect the fixation time. Fixation
longer than  1 week reduces the staining intensity. Fixation longer than 1
month - forget it completely...
