I believe it is listed in the BASIC HISTONET  "NETIQUETTE"  to avoid
abbreviations unless it's explained in the message. I love puzzles
myself and I don't mind coming across unexplained abbreviations so I
could try to figure it out myself. (Of course I'm not always
successful.)  But when other people complain about it, they do have a
point. I think a simple explanation would suffice, omitting snide
remarks.
