There is another job opening in our department, here at the University of  Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  Forgive me if i have already posted this to the histonet, i was sending the message the other day and the server was giving me a hassle, so i thought i'd make sure it got to the list.

Posting Information for 0.7 FTE Laboratory Technologist I.

The incumbent of this position will have responsibilities in the Autopsy suite as well as in the Main Histology laboratory. The incumbent is flexible and able to adapt to a constantly changing work environment. The ability to govern a self- directed work day, as well as perform within a team setting are essential.

Duties in the Autopsy Suite include:

    • assisting Pathologists or Residents in the performance of Hospital ordered autopsies
    • assuming responsibility for the day to day functioning of the Morgue area
    • receiving and preparing remains
    • maintenance of solvent recovery systems

Duties within the Main Histology Laboratory will include the following:

    • perform test analysis on body tissues and fluids as requested by Medical staff, outside referral agencies and research projects

    • performing procedures requiring technical expertise, including tissue processing, embedding microtomy and staining

    • monitoring and organizing daily workflow
    • assisting co-workers and students
    • displaying leadership and team work skills

Qualifications:

    • Graduate of a recognized school of Medical Laboratory Technology
    • MLT (General) designation
    • B.S.c. or ART Preferred
    • Experience in Anatomic Pathology required
    • Morgue/Autopsy experience preferred
    • Registered with ASMLT (or eligible)
