Histology is definitely high stress. So, Ian, if you want to know if you have a good tech? Can they cut, embed, file, coverslip, stain, and handle the stress? Can they read and follow a protocol? Do they ask questions if they need help? Can they do any of these items without excessive complaining? Then they are probably OK. If you really need a time constraint for the higher ups - if it takes them an hour to cut one block, then they are probably not going to work out.
