Thank you, Peggy, for the kind words ("bragging") about my program.

We are pleased to be admitting our fifth class to begin in the fall, and we
are having to turn applicants away because the interest this year is greater
than our capacity. With the completion of the current (4th) graduating
class, our program has had over 100 graduates, and they are performing well
above the national average on the ASCP HT exam. I would invite any
interested parties to contact me for information about the course work, and
to request application for the class of 2000.

Most of the information that you shared was correct, but I wanted to clarify
one point. At this time, there are no "line" charges for the phone call
time. We have an 800 number which students call in on for the weekly 2-hour
lectures. The tuition charged is the in-state Indiana resident rate, no
matter where the student lives -- no out-of-state fees are charged. The cost
of tuition and fees for the upcoming year is about $3200, with half due in
August and the other half due in January.

In light of the changes that ASCP has just announced regarding the need for
an associate degree for eligibility after 2004, our program is considering
changing its course requirements to end in an assoicate degree. However, we
won't be making those changes for a few years, and we look forward to
helping more students reach their goal of becoming certified before the
associate degree is required.

In addition to the Certificate level course work that has been discussed, we
offer an Associate degree in Histotechnology also, but it is designed for
the already-ASCP-certified HT (or someone who has completed the 24 credits
of our Certificate program). Additional general education course work may be
taken at accredited colleges or universities near the student's home, or by
distance education through Indiana University (almost all required courses
are available through their department of Independent Study), and
transferred to IU. In addition, there is one 6-hour course (a sort of
"capstone") required that is offered via phone once per week, which requires
some research, writing, and portfolio collection. That capstone course is
taken by students who have completed most of the general education
requirements. I also invite interested histotechs to contact me for the
information regarding the Associate degree.

Sorry for the length of this reply, but you can imagine my surprise when I
got on line and found discussions about our program. Thanks, again, Peggy
and Gary, for sharing the info with the group.
