I have heard so very often that there is a very big need for histotechs.
Well I'm a graduate of a NAACLS accredited program & have received an
AAS degree & had a very hard time finding employment. In fact I was out
of histology for several years before I was able to get a job. There
are 2 well known labs here, but the histology work is sent out of state.
There are also several big Pharmaceutical Co's most of which want
chemists or biologists with BS or MS degrees. As for the hospitals,
they've been doing a lot of cut backs. I love working in the lab but
have considered changing fields for the pure fact that there doesn't
seem to be a lot of stability between mergers & cut backs. The salary
has not been too impressive either. I guess I'm just not in a good area
for laboratorians.
