I fix bone with Shandon's Zink formol, it is great for IHC. I decal with
formic acid (5%) which is also good for IHC, so I guess what you use to fix
and decal with depends on what you want to do.

Subject: Safranin O stain, Bone fixation
Histonetters,
Do you know of any publications that explain the theory and
principles of
the Safranin O/Fast Green stain? I follow the procedure
from the AFIP
manual but have been unable to find any additional
information.
I am also interested in feedback on fixation of bone
specimens. I work
with rabbit & sheep knees and am currently fixing with 10%
formalin and
Surgipath Decalcifier I. It seems to be working fine but I
have been asked
to try different fixation treatments. Does any one fix bone
with something
other that 10% formalin?
Thanks for your help.
