Did you also check the pH of your stain solutions?

Help!! Our pathologists are starting to see a new artifact where they
are unable to see the melanocytes (we are all derm).  It only happens on
a rare occasion.  We checked the PH of the water on the stainer and it
seemed fine.  We can't think of anything else?  Help!
