Shandon does make a linear stainer on which the individual slides are moved 
through the stains by placing the slide holders on a "bicycle chain".  We used 
one for years and loved it.  It was originally an SKI stainer - and was 
purchased, and is still marketed by Thermo Shandon.  They even have a small one that 
can be used in the frozen section area.
