RE: [Histonet] Safety regs/Pathologists

From:"Weems, Joyce"

All well and true - unless one is caught, at which time the thousands ofdollars that one may be fined should then be paid by the person notfollowing the rules? Perhaps you don't have these strict measures with fines? It's also a real nightmare for managers who must make their staff follow therules. j-----Original Message-----From: histonet-bounces@lists.utsouthwestern.edu[mailto:histonet-bounces@lists.utsouthwestern.edu]On Behalf Of MarshallTerry Dr, Consultant HistopathologistSent: Thursday, May 13, 2004 11:55 AMTo: Bill; histonet@pathology.swmed.eduSubject: RE: [Histonet] Safety regs/PathologistsAlthough Bill's views may sound rather prima donna-ish to some, I mustsupport him.Safety procedures and practices have become rather petty, tedious, and in myview, sometimes more dangerous than the perceived danger designed for.Goggles prevent you seeing well - dangerous.Feather blade holders prevent you sensing where the blade is - dangerous.Safety hoods/cabinets prevent you seeing or doing anything in other than aclumsy way - dangerous, and so on.Let sense rule over nonsense.NB - this is NOT in any way anti-safety.Dr Terry L Marshall, B.A.(Law), M.B.,Ch.B.,F.R.C.Path Consultant Pathologist Rotherham General Hospital South Yorkshire England terry.marshall@rothgen.nhs.uk-----Original Message-----From: Bill [mailto:bill501@mindspring.com]Sent: 13 May 2004 15:19To: histonet@pathology.swmed.eduSubject: Re: [Histonet] Safety regs/PathologistsAt 9:09 AM -0400 5/13/04, Gldnsthisto@aol.com wrote:>Can anyone out there help me with what to do when the pathologists andtheir>staff (not paid by the hospital) will not follow safety regulationsAs a Pathologist and Physician, I try to never let regulations get in the way of my caring for patients.
