RE: sliding vs sledge

Dear Histoman,

The knife Moves on the sliding microtome  and the specimen moves on a sledge microtome to section.

The sledge microtome is able to section larger and hard specimens.

Best regards

Subject: sliding vs sledge

I would like to take a survey.

What is the difference between a sliding microtome and a sledge microtome ?

Does one move the knife and the other move the specimen ?

What is the advantage to a sliding over a sledge or vice versa ?

Does anyone use either one or the other on a regular basis ?

Thanks !
