Re: histo 101 question

From:Barbara Stancel

Dear Linda,

We gave up acid washing about 12 years ago. The fumes kept eating up all
the metal around....it finally dawned on us....HEY we're breathing this
stuff!!! We now use a product called "RBS 35 Detergent, Concentrate. A
superior replacement for Dichromate-Sulfuric Acid Mixture" (straight from
the label). We buy it from Pierce 1-800-8-PIERCE. It cleans our lab ware
very well and it is not caustic! You can stick your hands in it!!

We prepare it by the directions on the bottle of concentrate and keep about
3-5 gal of it in an open plastic container. We drop our Lab Ware (glass,
plastic and metal) in to soak for any time over 1 hour. Rinse well, drain
and ready for use.

Sometimes working here is just like being at home, we have to wash our own
dishes! :-)

Histologically yours,

hi people,

can some of you please post or send me your procedure for acid washing of
your histo glassware. our procedure has come up missing and our "new"
glassware person, who has not been acid washing or rinsing our stuff, is
causing us all kinds of grief with our stains.
