I use a small humidifier.  About 40% humidity eliminates the static around the
microtome.  I only run it when I'm sectioning so as not to create humidity
related problems with other tasks in the lab.  It is a little more trouble,
making sure that I don't start growing mold, but since I have asthma huffing
is out of the question and breathing is for life support.
