Oxford, Maryland has some REALLY interesting information about Davidson's
fixative, whose history I've been pursuing for about 30 years. The
breakthrough is this literature citation:

BL Shaw and HI Battle. 1957. The gross and microscopic anatomy of the

digestive tract of the oyster Crassostrea virginica Gmelin. Canadian Journal

of Zoology 35:325-347.

Carol, if you have a copy of that paper, please look at the bibliography for
me and find the original reference to Davidson's fixative. Moore and Barr in
the papers you cited (from my Web site) state that they omitted the glycerol
(glycerin) from the original formula, but nobody has yet found that original
formula. Looks like you may have provided a lead to it!
