RE: Autopsy

From:Tom McNemar

We no longer do them here (we use a service).  When we did them we did not charge for in-house deaths, or if the deceased had been discharged within the last 30 days but charged for any others we might do.  We stopped doing them because we were doing so few (4-6 per year).  We couldn't really justify maintaing the morgue for that many and certainly couldn't keep people trained.

Subject: Autopsy

Does ANYONE charge for autopsies? The CPT codes are professional codes, do you utilize them? I am doing a poll for the Director.
DO you perform autopsies (infectious, CJD, ANY) for others? Some entities use an autopsy service-available in larger cities.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
