In general I believe that those careers which require formal training
and evaluation of that training, rather than just on the job training,
should be regarded as professions and the individuals who are in those
situations as professionals either as apprentices or trained
A professional can however be defined as an individual who conducts
themselves in a professional manner and in most careers the manner in
which we carry out work is a measure of the degree of our
professionalism. Therefore being in a profession does not ensure that
you are yourself a professional.
Histology is therefore, in my opinion, a profession and trained
histotech are professionals. To regard ourselves otherwise is I feel
demeaning to us and our profession.
I had a late night, hope this is coherent.
