Ian, actually I was referring to the stain by Aparicio and Marsden, I need to 
search my files for the proper reference. 

1% methylene blue in 1% borax 
stain for 15-20 seconds on a 70 degree hotplate 
rinse in water
stain with 2% basic fuchsin for 15-20 seconds on a hot plate.
rinse in water and coverslip when dry.

i have never tried the polychrome  stain you are referring to, i may have to 
give it a whirl in the lab.
