Dana,
one can easily see intact red blood cells in capillaries in virtually any H&E on tissue that has been formalin fixed. given this fact, how do you explain your observations with formalin and rbc?

Formalin fixed RBCS will lyse, due to the water content in Formalin, I have
done this with peripheral smears that have malignant cells in them, I fix in
formalin, it rids my slide of rbcs(endogenous peroxidase) and adheres the
malignant cells to the slide.
