In preparing sectionsof hair it is not the cutting that is the problem
but the retention of the cut sections on slides. Embedding in paraffin
will work but then best to remove the paraffin often with loss of the
hairs.
The optimal method is to embed in celloidin or LVN. While these penetrate
slowly it is not the intent to infiltrate the hair but rather to encase
them so that sections can be cut. The celloidin block can be sectioned
using a hard backed razor if you wish and the celloidin section with the
encased hairs placed directly on a slide.
It is usual to examine hairs in both cross and longitudinal sections.
If you have the facilities why not look at these with  the SEM?
