Jim,
This is just an idea but it is working for one of my part time employees...
She moved to town last year and after 20+ years as a histotech - part of
that time as a supervisor - she didn't want to work full time either and
benefits weren't an issue since her husband works for Sunquest.
She contacted all the hospitals in town surveying them on their need for
per diem employees. Several of these (me included) hired her on as a per
diem and now she sometimes works for more than 40 hours/week. In fact she
is booked for the entire summer what with vacations and the like.
The beauty of this is, of course, that she can turn down any offer if she
has other things to do or places to go. And she has done this without the
help of any agency that may get a share in the take.
In our town per diem employees are paid quite handsomely so she does well
when the paychecks come on top of everything else.
