I think staffing histotechs depends on what part of the country you live in.
Here in Colorado we usually have no problem finding even certified
histotechs, because this is a desirable place to live and people don't
change jobs very often. I am contacted almost weekly from certified
histotechs who want to move here and are looking for jobs. Another cause
for staffing problems is the population. Colorado is not a very populated
state, so there isn't a need for a great number of hospitals or histotechs,
compared to both coast' where there are a lot more people and hospitals. It
is basically a supply and demand situation.
