Hi Ginny, 
don't let it faze you  PCR is just like cooking - follow the recipe 
and you'll be ok. I once also just cut sections and did special 
stains- even IHC scared me!  Promega have a great book - called  
"Introduction to Biotechniques - PCR" that gives some great outlines.
