We too do antigen retrieval on formic acid / formalin fixed blocks and
have observed several things.
Use DI water when using charged or silanized slides.
Treated slides, especially charged slides will lose their effectiveness
over time. Make sure that your slide stock is rotated.
Perhaps your final heat time (60'C for 30min) is not sufficient to dry
water accumulation from storage. Try storing in a dessicator or
radically increasing the final dry time. Helpfully yours :-) tlb
