I'll concur with john coppens .
I have done std pwax processing and still maintained good signal, provided I 
aq mounted in anti fade mountant. I cut resin sections at 4microns, again 
mounting with antifade mountant and was able to maintain strong enough 
signal to do deconvolution/ z stacks. . Again, I concur with John's 
suggestion to use an anti GFP Ab reagent. I use Molecular Probes'. Some pics
