RE: Spinal Cord

From:Fred Underwood

The blocks may be too cold when you are sectioning them. I chill blocks of CNS with the tissue facing up, avoiding direct contact with the ice. Spinal cord seems more prone to "blow up" on the water bath, lowering the bath temperature is a good idea. Ammonia water ( about 5%) is good, I also use fabric softener. Hope this helps.

Subject: Spinal Cord

	Dear Histonetters:

We are having a very difficult time cutting some spinal cord. Even after
long soaking, it is chattering and "cracking". What is a good softener to
use after processing to get a really good section? I seem to remember using
Ammonia in distilled Water. Does that sound familiar?
I would really appreciate any advice.

	Thanks,
