Silica gel revisited for frozen section freezer storage

From:Gayle Callis

Not sure if my last message got through

We use silica gel in little nylon processing bags (ThermoShandon) - not so
much to keep already air dried sections dry during -80C freezer storage,
but more to adsorb any condensation moisture inside black plastic storage
box AFTER REMOVAL from -80C freezer. We equilibrate FS to room
temperature BEFORE opening slide box, the silica gel is inside box to
maintain dry conditions for both unfixed or acetone fixed frozen sections
during this warm up period. Maybe it is not necessary, but we have good
immunostaining results.
