Re: Gram Weigert for Fibrin

From:Linda Jenkins (by way of Histonet)

Sharon,

You stated:

"I need an image or picture of the blue black stain of Weigert for fibrin. I
have tried several sites from the net to no avail. I am trying to stain
fibrin by Weigert stain for fibrin. The one book i found that have the
procedure states that for differentiation 1 part aniline oil with 1 part
xylene. I have tried different timing of differentiation starting from 2
seconds up to 1 min, however the blue black stain was not shown. The
section is a thrombus"

I would recommend that you review Sheehan's second edition of "The Theory
and Practice of Histotechnology", Batelle Press, 1980. Page 157 has a
color photo of the Mallory's variant of Weigert's fibrin stain. The book
also includes 2 different techniques for fibrin
(I use Carstair's) and an excellent explanation of fibrin and fibrinoid.

Regards,
Linda
