Re: extended time in NBF

Mary Lou,
If they want to do apoptosis by IHC methods it is probably not a good idea to leave the samples in formalin for more than a couple of days, because the proteins will be crosslinked making access difficult.  Antigen retriveal methods to break the links can be used but it is always easier to start with accessibility.  As far as drug characterization, it depends on what methods they will be using to do this.

 Good Afternoon,

A grad student is wondering how long tumor samples can be left in !0% neutral buffered formalin for future apoptosis and drug characterization (she did not elaborate).  Is several weeks too long?

I do not do either procedure. You can email her : Victoria Ying <vy13@cornell.edu>

Thanks for your help.
