I have recently performed immunos on ThinPrep cases to diagnose PCP.  The
results were beautiful - little background stain and the organisms picked
up nicely.
I'm not sure what the Autocyte fixative is, but if it's similar to ThinPrep
give it a try.  Do the immunos on a direct smear and an Autocyte slide for
the same case and decide which you like better.
