Evans Blue(C.I.23860, Direct Blue 53) has been used as a vital stain, to separate viable from non-viable cells and, in highly purified form, to measure blood plasma volume. It also has some use as a counterstain for immunofluorescence staining.

Does anyone know what this is used for?  Is it a vital dye?
I can't find any information on this in any of my reference
books.
