Louri,

I am assuming that this researcher is not the one sectioning the blocks.
They should have the pleasure of trying to section these blocks.....maybe
some OJT for some enlightenment on the plight of histotechs that have to
"work miracles" with whatever is thrown in a cassette. I have had more than
my share of these!!! I just tell them "Garbage in, garbage out!".

I really like Barry's reply to this problem. I've seen many a poor soul at
the mall trying to accomplish this task and it isn't a pretty sight! So
neither is the tissue! Good luck with trying to get through to someone that
seems to not understand the fundamentals of histotechnology. I agree with
Barry about deeper cassettes, but you will definitely have to extend your
processing times. Let us know what solution you come up with (besides
throwing something at them).

Try to have a good weekend. We histotechs always seem to come up with a
solution to a problem.

How about a deeper cassette?
Failing this you should be able to cut a thin enough slice by using two
stiff backed razor blades held together with a spacer of desired thickness
between these.

failing logic the...ask her how she would feel, if she was a size 18 and was
crammed into a size 14 dress and then placed into a solution where she would
swell.
In fact you may want to try this, would love to see the before and after
pictures.

Hi Everyone, I have a researcher who is working with placenta. The problem:
she wants to show all the layers, is cutting the tissue 5 mm thick and
cramming it into a cassette, and is not satisfied with the results. I have
explained to her that it will be necessary to cut the tissue thinner before
placing it into the cassette to achieve adequate processing, but she states
this is too difficult. Does
