It might be worth looking at the article by Bedrick etal (1986)
"Histochemical determination of copper, zinc and iron in some benign and
malignant tissue" Am J Clin Pathol 86:637-640.

Does anyone have a stain for detecting zinc ions in brain tissue, either 
paraffin or frozens?
