"Nuked" slides breaking

From:Bruce Gapinski <BGapinski@pathgroup.com>

Histonians,
We've discovered a problem w/ slides breaking in the microwave oven.
My wonderful staff has done a small study, and found that in may be due to
the amount of graphite one uses when writing the accession number on the
slide.
The slides only break where the writing is. What's more, is that we
could make a slide break by drawing a thick line w/ the pencil. We switched
to pencils w/ thinner graphite and there is no problem w/ breaking.
I know, I know, I should "get a life" but who wants their slides to break!
Remember - Histologists are better embedders!
