We use bar coding on our requisitions and slides.  It has been very useful!!  We are just starting to use xylene-resistant labels that may be able to be used on our cassettes also.  The barcoding has enabled us to use a scan-in "Check-in/Check-out" system for our slides so that we can locate them when necessary.  We have 18 pathologists at 5 different locations, so this has been very helpful.  The scanning of the slides and requisitions also eliminates manual input errors...!
