Mary:

I've been in different on call situations at two different
institutions. Both places set the hours to be on call and paid an
hourly rate. Currently, we are on call on weekends from 8 AM to 6 PM at
a rate of $2.25/hour. If we are called in, we are paid for travel time
and time worked (a minimum of 2 hours at an overtime rate). So even if
it was to reset a piece of equipment in 10 minutes, we would be paid for
at least 2 hours OT. Techs are scheduled for call. And yes we have a
designated pager. Be sure to know the range of the pager. We live in
a bi-state area so a longer range pager was needed.
