RE: Washed Out Nuclei

At one point we had a similiar problem. We found that we actually had
xylene contamination in the processor. We were using a fixative that
needed to be made up with alcohol and one of the assistants accidentally
made it up with xylene. The weird thing was not all of the tissues were
affected. I would look for xylene contamination during some part of your
processing schedule.

Subject: Washed Out Nuclei
Can anyone tell me why, intermittently, we are having slides that appear to
have washed out nuclear staining. Mostly on endometrium, sometimes on
reprocessed skin. Everything is processed/stained/etc. together. Does
anyone have a good reprocessing schedule? We use VIP tissue processors.
THanks,
