I worked at Cornell years ago and while there I would perfuse the whole rat
with ice cold paraformaldehyde (we were taking only the brain for analysis),
but I would pre-perfuse with a heparin/sodium nitrate solution (I forgot the
concentration) to dilate the blood vessels.  The brains were sucrose loaded
(30%) and cryosectioned.  They looked beautiful.  Jen
