The one good thing I heard about Windows 2000 is that it will stop your 
computer from locking up when you are in the middle of doing something really 
important.  Just something I heard at the NSH from a workshop director who 
was a Beta site.  But, I too will save a few bucks and just put up with "you 
have performed an illegal act" when I do a soft boot to stop the lock up.
