The periodic appearance of references to "Elmer's Glue" reminds
me of my first visit to the States when it was recommended to me.
Not being worldly wise in matters American, I kept my puzzlement
to myself until, having failed to decipher that typical American
abbreviation with the help of several UK vendors, I next visited the
States.
Until then the relevance of the advice "Use Elmers" and the
subsequent explanation - "Elmers Glue - you can get it in any
hardware store" was hindered by the fact that to me:-
Store was a big departmental shop like Sears
Hardware was the computer sat on my desk
and
Elmer was a country bumpkin (sorry, ?redneck) who "put his foot
on the gas!
