Barb,

CD17 is lactosylceramide, a marker for granulocytes, monocytes and
platelets.  I think that what you require is CD117( c-Kit ), which
stains GIST, as well as some other cell types. This was a presentation
at the last local immunohistochemistry user group meeting. 
Antibodies against CD117 are available from a variety of sources. We use
a polyclonal from either Santa Cruz or Dako. Contact me offline or at
