RE: [Histonet] Human or animal tissue for H&E control, a difference??

From:"Smith, Allen"

Human skin contains enough different cell types to be a good test of nuclear
staining. If your nuclear stain is any good at all, it will show good
nuclear detail in sweat glands and the outer root sheaths of hair follicles.
Nuclei in sweat ducts and basal epidermis will stain readily but with less
detail. A really good nuclear stain will also show good nuclear detail in
the middle layer of the epidermis (stratum spinosum).

I would focus on using control tissue from the species that your research
utilizes. If you are working with human tissue, then go with a human
control. If mouse, use mouse control, etc. As to the use of skin for
nuclear detail, I would be skeptical. I will let others make a

Good luck,

Would it make a difference as to what tissue (animal or human) I use as my
H&E control? We are not CAP regulated, as we are in research. Hence we are
not required to run controls but simply as good management practice and for

Is skin the best tissue control as to show nuclear detail?
